Content freshness is now a hard ranking signal.
A conversation I have been having with clients more and more frequently goes something like this. The client points to a piece of content on their website that they are proud of. Well-written, professionally presented, detailed. Then they tell me it has not been updated since 2022. My response is always the same: that piece of content is invisible to AI.
This is not a metaphor. It is a measurable reality. A Seer Interactive log file study from October 2025 found that 65 per cent of AI bot hits target content published within the past year, 79 per cent target content from the last two years, and 89 per cent from the last three years. Only 6 per cent of hits land on content older than six years.
