So what is an AI Search Readiness Audit? In plain terms, it is a health check that tells you whether AI search engines can actually reach your site, understand it, trust it and cite you, and then shows you exactly what to fix. Why is my traffic flat or falling even though my rankings haven’t changed?
Because search itself has changed underneath you. More and more, your customers are asking an AI assistant for recommendations, comparisons and answers instead of scrolling through a list of blue links. And when the AI answers them directly, that click never reaches your site, even if you are still ranking perfectly well in the traditional results.
This is the real shift we are all living through: from ranking to being cited. Ranking on Google gets you found. What is the difference between SEO and GEO?
It is worth being clear on this, because the two get muddled. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is about ranking your pages in the search results. Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) is about getting your content picked up and cited inside the answers AI gives. Put simply, SEO helps you get found, and GEO helps you become the answer. What does the AI Search Readiness Audit assess?

How do you measure AI visibility in the audit?
Here is something most people do not realise: AI answers are not fixed. Ask an AI assistant the same question twice and you can get different brands, in a different order, each time. So checking once tells you almost nothing. What we do instead is measure your visibility as an average across lots of readings of your priority questions, and we look at three things in particular:
- Mention rate: how often your brand appears across many AI responses to the same questions. This is your baseline visibility number.
- Citation rate: whether AI points people to your site, not just names you, measured through referral traffic from the AI platforms.
- Answer position: where your brand appears within an answer, since a first mention carries more weight than a fifth.
And we always measure these against your competitors, because your real goal is not some abstract score, it is closing the gap to whoever the AI currently treats as the go-to name in your category.
How is this different from an ordinary SEO audit?

How long does an AI Search Readiness Audit take?
Usually a few weeks, depending on how big your site is and how much competitor benchmarking you want. We will agree a clear timeline with you right at the start, at the discovery stage, so you are never left wondering.
Do I need a new website to act on the findings?
Usually not, no. Most of the gains come from tidying up and clarifying what you already have, making your content easier for AI to extract, sharpening your entity signals and adding structured data, rather than starting again from scratch.
Will this replace my SEO?
Not at all. Traditional SEO still matters for getting found and ranking. Think of the audit as adding a second layer focused on AI visibility, so you are covered on both fronts, the search engines and the answer engines.
Why can’t I just check my AI visibility myself?
