What should you be doing leading up to the return of visitors?

Digital Tips to Help You and Your Business

Our  10-step checklist to attract visitors and tourists to your business.

You need a website that doesn’t put off visitors and is easy enough for them to navigate.  A current website,  updated with the latest info on your destination, service, product, or offering. It should have a responsive design so that it looks good on both laptops & smartphones.

Checking and updating your digital marketing is just as important as ensuring well-written and engaging content.

💡  HINT 1 – Remember to use the right keywords when writing your posts, as that will help people find you when they’re doing their search.

💡  HINT 2 – You should also update your social media channels with a post about the destination so that your company’s brand is always top of mind.

1. Does your business have good visibility on Google?  Make sure you are listed with the correct contact information, opening hours and address. Claim or enhance your Google Profile listing. You can also upload some new photos or fresh content onto this Google My Business profile.

2. Covid has been with us for the last two years. People are aware of most of the related Covid regulations and whilst these are still important, so we need to keep them in focus. Tourists are here to have fun. They are escaping. Tourists want to have a holiday. So let’s lower the emphasis on a Covid focus on your website pages and let’s increase the element of fun, experience, outstanding service, community, and destination on your web pages.

3. Website SEO Optimisation, Yes SEO, but SEO from a topic perspective. It’s never too late to include a page that targets tourists & visitors. Check your website speed. Google likes a fast website but so does your website searcher. You really want to provide a memory making experience, not a lag that causes a website visitor to retreat and click on your competition’s Google search result.

4. Create a community and a destination. You might want to consider recommendations to neighbouring businesses. Creating content around this could help provide an interesting, attention-grabbing blog. Using social media ads can help provide a great atmosphere with related businesses and create a wider opportunity for engagement and awareness.

5. Social Media Advertising and Google Ads management. Where are the tourists heading to NZ from? It is predicted that the first wave of tourists will be reuniting with family and loved ones. Why not plan some affordable social ads or Google ads for those target markets? You could become their destination, experience, and shop of choice.

6. Support Local, Shop Local. Visiting Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown or Wellington from offshore. We’ve missed you and welcomed you back to our New Zealand City, Town or Suburb. Make it all about local support.

7. Analyze your web stats. Keep track of the data. Use this data to see the location of your visitors and figure out what they want when they visit your site. Relevancy for traffic targetting and a great deal of insight will flow from this data analysis of your Google Analytics and Conversion data. Use this information to help target Ads, posts (SEO’d for your website or on social), and social content.

8. What about a focused special? A deal of all deals to welcome customers and tourists back. A free muffin with your cappuccino? Perhaps collaborate with another local business.  Shop here and get a coffee voucher to use at the local coffee shop. That business could do one in return.

9. Encourage tourists to come back.  Show them what they can expect when they return. Share some of your reviews with them so that they know that you are the destination for optimising their travel experience. Be confident in knowing that you’re something special for tourists. Remembering a destination may be a physical shop or an online experience before it’s time to say goodbye and head home, with new and special memories made.

10. Take a video of your favorite places.  Share local experiences.  Your audience will be curious to see what you shared with them!
