During my online marketing and social media presentation, the aspect that usually is of most interest to my audience are my statistics that graphically depict various age groups and their use of social media networks.
As time marches on and new generations mature into real consumers, we’ve taken note of the Millennial
Generation and acknowledge that Generation Z is the generation that follows on afterwards.
Currently Generation Z is not even 21 years old yet, but this generation is already beginning to exhibit an influence.
So in the world of online marketing and internet branding (Net Branding), what do we as New Zealand companies need to know about Generation Z?
As compared to earlier generations, “Generation Z is mature, self-directed, and resourceful,” according to the following infographic by Marketo.
They know how to self-educate and find information, and 52% use YouTube or social media for typical research assignments.
In addition, and I see this with my own children, Generation Z embraces the Do It Yourself (DIY) culture with some 76% of this generation wishing to turn their hobbies into full-time jobs, and 72% of high school students want to start their own businesses someday.
“This generation knows the ins and outs of the Internet, shops online, and is ambitious about work,” states Marketo. “Your future business depends on understanding how to market to them.”
