Every single day, I’m amazed at how quickly the world is evolving and as the world is evolving, so too are those opportunists wanting to get into our account?
We’ve been involved over the last 24, 48 hours with an account hack.
What did they do?
They came through on the messenger profile.
Once they got through on the messenger profile, they managed to get into the person’s Facebook account.
Once they were in the Facebook account from there, they were able to add a profile once the profile was in the account, they called with voice altering technology.
The persons whose account it was to say that they were in the account because they’d been in the account.
They were able to get photographs of the person. They were able to manipulate those photos into slow moving images that allowed it to be merged with some content, adult content that made it look like this person was watching adult content, which it wasn’t the case.
They took those videos and they sent it off to a few of the person’s acquaintances, stroke friends in that social environment, all the while creating the hype around, we’re in your account, we’ve got some information on you and we’re now going to want to extort some money from you.
We were successful in being able to safeguard the account and pull it back so we could gain control of the account and remove the hacker from that account. But understanding the vulnerability when you know that somebody has been in your account, you are on guard.
So in hack terms or in the security breach world, often they attempt to re-engineer another feedback back into that account. So they did that utilizing the emotional vulnerability around found the adult content.
They came back with an authenticated Facebook approach.
It looked like Facebook, it looked like me to announce to this particular profile that the account was going to be blocked because of adult content.
Guess what if you’re not on the lookout, you could have been pulled back to the hacker web. But in this particular case, you could see very clearly when you, when you hovered over the submit when you hover over the email, it definitely wasn’t the case.
I share this with you because every single day we are seeing different tactics, and new ways. And this one was particularly the first time I’d seen a physical call from the hacker trying to extort money.
So please be careful out there.
