Social media and digital marketing engage in a cyclical relationship, where as one feeds into the other, in turn the other reciprocates. This can sound like a bold claim if you don’t know the benefits of working social media into your digital marketing strategy.

Social media and digital marketing are two sides of the same coin.
Cathy Mellett is here to tell you why using social media in digital marketing can make a world of difference to your business’s online success, as well as how to build relationships with your business’ target audience through social media.
Is Social Media Really All That?
So, let us consider the following! If you deleted all of your social media accounts, do you believe you could still build a successful business online? And, I would really like to urge you to think about this: typically, in your day-to-day world, people build relationships one-to-one, person-to-person. It’s those relationships that stand the test of time, going through the ups and downs on the topsy-turvy situation of whatever is going on.
Think about social media in the same way – if you grow your business face-to-face, social media can become that important and powerful force that allows you to stay in touch with people, enabling you to become so much more than just that lonely little number in the telephone. With social media, you become somebody that they are connecting and communicating with through your social media posts. With platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and more, your clients can see what you are up to. Moreover, regular posts on social media intended to garner engagement and written in a more colloquial manner can really show your business’s human and emotional side.
Building Relationships with the Target Audience
If you decide to take your business to social media with a focus on engagement and on building and maintaining that human, interpersonal relationship, it is much more likely to withstand the test of time. However, if you are building your social media solely to use internet tactics, to throw people into funnels, to boost them from funnels into an email marketing strategy, and to bombard them with multiple emails on the inbox; then I’m afraid I don’t believe you would be successful if you actually lost your social media accounts. This is because you haven’t actually considered building and maintaining the relationship. Why would clients care when you disappear from the face of the internet if they don’t have that personal connection with your business?
And so, I urge everyone in the digital space to really consider their approach to connecting with their client base. It’s important to focus on building those long-term, interpersonal relationships, because those are the relationships that withstand the test of time. Only using social media for gimmicky internet marketing tactics is certainly not something that I would be recommending – social media is capable of contributing so much more to your business!
